Rooted in Purpose
The opening of Psalms sets a tone of hope and possibility. To be happy—ashrei (אשרי, ash-ray)—is to align yourself with a life of meaning, founded on wisdom and rootedness. This word doesn't only mean happiness but suggests a deep contentment from following a purpose-filled path.
As you begin, imagine yourself like the tree in verse 3: nourished, stable, ready to bear fruit when the time is right. The Torah, or Divine teaching, becomes your water source, and just by turning your thoughts to spiritual wisdom each day, you are nurturing your own growth.
Personal Insight: Everyone seeks a starting point for change. The Psalmist tells you that tiny shifts—what you read, listen to, or reflect on—can shape your spirit.
Daily Connection: Where do you ‘plant’ yourself when seeking wisdom or inspiration? Even five minutes a day can refresh your soul.
Reflection Prompt: Which space or time in your day could become your own "stream of water" for learning or reflection?
