Roots of Hope

Courage and Waiting

The poetic wisdom of Psalms 27:14 encourages strength in times of uncertainty. The key Hebrew word here is קוֵה (kaveh – "wait" or "hope")—wait not in idle despair, but with hopeful anticipation and resolve.

This verse recognizes that waiting is woven with courage. Sometimes, hope means standing firm in the present, despite not knowing what comes next. The psalmist’s heart is bold, not because everything is certain, but because faith and hope are their own kinds of bravery.

As you read, reflect on times you’ve had to wait for clarity or renewal and how hope helped you move forward. Jewish wisdom sees waiting as active—full of trust, courage, and even joy as you anticipate good to come.

Practice: Think of one area where you are "waiting." What is a hopeful action you can take, even if small? If you’re longing for deeper understanding, reach out and Ask Rabbi Ari—you are warmly invited to do so.
